The evening was a great success and we had a very good write-up in the February 2011 edition of the "Action Commerciale" magazine.

Salon des Vignerons Indépendants, Porte de Versailles, Paris, on the 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th was quite a success for us.
Tasting went on continuously and we sold out all the wines we brought that means:
- Beaune Longbois
- Meursault Tillets
- Monthelie rouge
- Beaune 1er Cru Grèves
- Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches rouge
- Pommard Village
and got may extra orders.

Hong Kong, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing - a ten-day race against time!
Thanks to all the cooperation from the Burgundy regional council, the consular service, Ubifrance and local chambers of commerce we were extremely well received during the different tasting sessions, professional and at a high level; we were able to meet potential customers and prospects for the future look good.
We are very satisfied with this visit which has enabled us to establish a good basis for trade in China and a new challenge.

Un an déjà s’est écoulé depuis notre participation au salon Vinomédia de Lyon en octobre 2010. Encouragés par l’accueil que les lyonnais ont réservé à nos grands Bourgognes, nous avons le plaisir de vous convier à nouveau à nous rendre visite sur notre stand à l’Espace Tête d’Or au salon Vinomédia 2011 les 14-15-16 octobre prochains pour y découvrir nos derniers millésimes.
Lors des dégustations professionnelles de 2011, les grands terroirs et le savoir-faire du domaine Berthelemot ont de nouveau été salués par la critique et nous serons heureux de vous faire déguster, entre autres, notre Monthélie rouge 2009 coup de cœur au Guide Hachette, Meursault Tillets élogieusement commenté par Alain Marty et Michel Bettane cet hiver et d’autres vins de notre gamme.
Vous pourrez goûter les millésimes actuellement disponibles à la vente : 2008 au caractère vif et fruité, 2009 tout en équilibre et très prometteur pour les rouges ainsi que 2010 pour les grands blancs de Beaune et Meursault.
Nous vous accueillerons sur notre stand, Vendredi 14 Octobre de 17h à 22h, Samedi 15 Octobre de 10h à 20h et Dimanche 16 Octobre de 10h à 18h.

Inquiétude en juillet-août...soulagement en septembre!
Le printemps exceptionnellement chaud et sec laissait présager un millésime précoce et peut-être peu abondant suite au stress hydrique qui commençait à se manifester dans le vignoble.
De fait, la floraison était terminée partout dès le 20 mai et la sécheresse se confirmait.
L'été n'a par contre pas été au rendez-vous: un mois de juillet frais et très pluvieux a permis au raisin de retrouver un volume normal, mais aussi au botrytis de s'installer en août sur Pinot Noir malgré le retour marqué de la chaleur.
La détermination de la date de récolte a une fois de plus été délicate, devant respecter notre volonté de récolter un raisin de maturité optimale, mais également en très bon état sanitaire.
Au vu de ces critères pas toujours concordants, nous avons débuté les vendanges le 28 août, d'abord sur les rouges de Beaune, plus précoces, pour finir par les blancs et les Hautes Côtes de Beaune.
Les très bonnes conditions météorologiques de toute cette période nous ont permis de récolter sereinement de beaux raisins.
Une première dégustation en fin de vinification nous permet d'entrevoir des rouges d'une belle robe profonde, fruités et aux tanins soyeux. Les raisins blancs de très bel état sanitaire promettent des vins distingués, riches et aromatiques.
les craintes de l'été sont maintenant dissipées; un beau millésime s'annonce!

Vinexpo, to Harvest in August, Salon des Vignerons Indépendants in ParisVinexpo:Following our participation at this wine fair, we had a number of promising contacts for extending our sales to other regions in France (eg. Granville in Normandy) and other countries, such as the UK (where we have had only little exposure); we are confident that this trend will continue in S.E Asia when we will be going to Hong Kong, Beijing, Shangai and Hangzhou on visits organized by the Burgundy chamber of commerce (CCIR) in November.To harvest in August... that is the question!:The precocious vegetation growth in Spring has now been slowed down by the present period of cold weather; berries are not fully developed yet and at this moment in time, there are doubts regarding harvesting in August as first anticipated...Salon des Vignerons Indépendants in Paris:We are pleased to announce that our application to take part in this independent winegrowers fair at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, end November, has been accepted; we hope to welcome you there from 24 to 28 November 2011.

Following a relatively mild winter and spring-like conditions around mid-March, the vines suddenly started to show first signs of growth which steadily developed thereon.
In the more favourable areas, buds began to swell as from 20 March and the first green points appeared early April which meant we had to hurry and finish tying back the last branches to avoid damaging the new growth.As for 2007, we started debudding as from 18 April signifyinyg that at this stage we are 15 days in advance by comparison to 2010.There is no risk through lack of rainfall at the moment because the vine roots are very deep; furthermore the present conditions are a barrier against crytogamic diseases meaning less spraying; however in other sectors of agriculture there are serious concerns of drought...

Our wines were presented at a recent food and wine event ("accord mets et vins") organized by the Wine and Business Club in the Paris, Hotel Bristol 3-star restaurant (Eric Fréchon). The evening was a great success and we had a very good write-up in the February 2011 edition of the "Action Commerciale" magazine.
On 8 April, Philippe Faure Brac will give a presentation on our wines in his Paris restaurant "Le Bistrot du Sommelier".
On 16, 17 and 18 Arpil we will take part in a wine fair organized by the Rotary Club (Antibes-Azur-Riviera) in the Fort Carré, Antibes...
Regarding the Fédération des Vignerons Indépendants de France wine fair, we will have to wait a little longer but we are still on the waiting list...
In the vineyard, conditions at the beginning of Winter were hard but work has resumed normally; pruning is now completed and at the moment all the trellising is being reconditioned.

Poor weather conditions in Spring with a serious abortive effect at the flowering stage suggested a low yield and an average development rate across all the plots.
It was necessary to thoroughly spray - somewhat late - because of the frequent Summer rain in order to protect the vegetation and the condition of the grapes; this action combined with thinning of the leaves around the grape clusters and reduction of lateral growth improved the level of maturity in the domain.
Monitoring of the situation first indicated a harvesting date as from 23 September, then from 20 September as the vines seemed to have reached maturity but, following a stormy period on 12 September, it appeared that harvesting of some Chardonnay plots could start on Saturday 18 September as we were able to rely on the availability of our faithful local pickers.
By 20 September all our team were at work for a dry and sunny period.
Although the yield was not very high, the sanitary condition of the grapes was good and maturity consistent.
Come and take a glass and we will be able to judge the results within the coming weeks...!

Notre souhait de pratiquer une viticulture plus respectueuse de l'environnement nous incite à privilégier le travail mécanique du sol.
Dans ce but, nous avons fait l'acquisition d'un nouvel enjambeur (Bobard LCC 60), léger, donc ne tassant pas trop les sols et économe en carburant.
Il est équipé de charrues traditionnelles et d'interceps hydrauliques s'effaçant au passage des ceps et permettant ainsi de couper les mauvaises herbes sous le rang.

Suite à un hiver très rigoureux, la vigne a démarré sa période végétative avec un peu de retard.
Le débourrement s'est étalé, selon les situations et les cépages, entre le 15 et le 27 avril. Une température quasi estivale fin avril a provoqué une explosion spectaculaire de la végétation, si bien que, en ce début de mai, certaines parcelles précoces présentent déjà 5 à 6 feuilles étalées. Une brusque chute des températures à partir du 2 mai nous incite à la prudence et nous rappelle que la période des "saints de glace" les 11, 12 et 13 mai n'est pas encore passée. Nous démarrons actuellement l'ébourgeonnage des parcelles les plus précoces.

More medals for Domaine Berthelemot! After receiving a first gold medal at the CGA Paris competition last year for its 2007 vintage white Beaune Longbois, two further -truly worthy- awards were received this year for 2 red wines, both 2007 vintage:
Pommard Noizons
Monthelie
For the gold medal Pommard Noizons 2007 the judge's flattering citation was: "a bouquet of fresh ripe fruit supple and well balanced tannins".
The Monthelie 2007 red wine was awarded a bronze medal and more than honourably cemmended as "rich red in colour, slight woody tones giving finenesse, well structured and fresh".
- Certification "Agriculture raisonnée" | 15/12/2009

After a successful audit last september, the domain has been awarded the official certification for "Agriculture raisonnée".
This certification, for which less than 10 winegrowers have been approved in Côte d'Or, guarantees that the methods used by Domaine Berthelemot are environmentally friendly (less products used for spraying) and hygienically safe (complete traceability system).
Next year, we will use several newly developped ecological molecules and products, lower in toxicity and with longer term action meaning that spraying in Spring can be reduced.
The use of herbicides will also be reduced in 2010 by the purchase of a tractor well equipped for efficient ploughing and hoeing; parts of our surface area are in grass where herbicides are not necessary; progressiveley the aim is to avoid the use of any chemical treatment of the ground depending on the reaction of the vine.
