Les Folatières
History
There are differing opinions on the origin of the name of this climat. For some, it derives from the fog banks—locally called "follots"—which sometimes appear here. Others refer to "folles-terres" due to the frequent erosion caused by heavy rainfall. This lieu-dit is one of the most famous in Puligny-Montrachet. It is also the largest Premier Cru, covering almost 18 hectares.
Soil
Thin clay-silty soil with a very high level of active limestone. Numerous scree can be found scattered across the plot.

The vintage
- March was sunny and budburst happened too early. 5th of April frost made big damages in Puligny. Flowering occurred lately, with wind and rain, many flower aborted, confirming a low yield vintage. Fortunately, summer was hot and dry, enhancing maturation and sugar concentration by the end of summer. Harvest started 13th of September. White wines are generous and fruit driven, but high acidity gives a good concentration and length. Red wines benefited from the hot summer with a complex bouquet and round tanins.
