Les Tillets
History
The old form of linden, trees found on the slope, were widely used in medieval medicine.
Soil
Rendzina soil (slightly leached on a limestone slope). Humic horizon composed of gravelly scree and white marls, over hard limestone bedrock. The bedrock, made of Bathonian limestone, is sometimes close to the surface.
Our plot(s)
25a 83ca. The plot was planted in 1962. Southeast exposure. Located at the top of the slope, with an altitude ranging between 320 and 340 meters.
The wine
Description
100% Chardonnay from handpicked grapes; vinified and raised in oak casks.
Taste
Due to its altitude, the terroir of Les Tillets shares a gustatory resemblance with its neighbor Puligny-Montrachet. The wines feature elegant aromas based on minerality, with a taut, almost slender mouth, full of energy and distinction. Les Tillets climat refers to the linden tree, which the taster will be able to identify in the wine.
Serving temperature
12/14°C. It is recommended to decant recent vintages so as to enhance the aroma.
The vintage
- After a very cold winter the vegetation growth started quickly as from end of march. The 28th-29th frost had luckily not too much effect on our vines. They started to bloom beginning of june. Alternating cool and very hot spells in july and august made it difficult to decide the right tile for harvest. Finally we started on the 4th of September. Gold in colour the grapes were in perfect conditions ; the wines have a strong aroma and in the mouth, are well balanced, full and rich intasted.
